Florida Tax-Free Disaster Preparedness

Starting August 1, 2025, certain disaster preparedness items will be permanently exempt from sales tax. 

Items that will be permanently exempt include batteries, fire extinguishers, insect repellent, ground anchor systems and tie-down kits, life jackets, portable gas or diesel cans, portable generators, smoke detectors, sunscreen, and waterproof tarpaulins, according to the Florida Department of Revenue.
